[News] CNBLUE sold 40,000 copies of album in the fastest time, surpassing Shinhwa and SHINee

Source: Newsen
Translated by: yongsarang @ Tumblr

CNBLUE made their comeback after 1 year with the new 3rd mini-album “EAR FUN” and sets the record for the shortest time in selling more than 40,000 album copies and is continuing to have “terrifying” increase of sales.
After CNBLUE released their new album, they were consistently holding a strong market sales. The month of March was described as “war” because of the fierce competition in the domestic music market in between SHINee, Shinhwa and 2AM, that’s why compelling stuff ahead of their rivals such as attaining the record of having the shortest time to sell more than 40,000 copies or even surpassing them is significant.
According to Hanteo chart, starting from the released of their new album “EAR FUN” last March 26, they already sold 13,878 (#1), March 27- 13,375 (#1) and March 28 – 13,400 (#1) copies. CNBLUE also took the no.1 spot on Hanteo chart and in real-time top searches consecutively.
Meanwhile, CNBLUE’s major debut single in Japan, “In My Head” achieved a gold record with the sales of more that 100,000 copies, and was recognized by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. Following the second single “Where You Are” which was after 41 years a band was included in the Oricon chart. The band’s overseas record achievements has become a big topic.

[Video|Trans] CNBLUE “Hey You” Presscon Interview by theStar

Credit: theStar@youtube
0:39~ JYH: Since we had a big success from the start, the expectation toward us is getting higher, we feel burdened more. When we promoted ‘I’m a loner’, we had an original intention. So we tried to go back to our original intention and tried to enjoy, just like how we love music itself.

1:12~ KMH: When l listened to it (Hey You) for the first time, I thought that it was perfectly our song and I was touched. Since it (Hey You) contains the cheerful and bright rhythm and melody and touching lyric to hold on to a missing lover who left behind, I feel like it (Hey You) is such a good song.

1:32~ JYH: Until now we have been keeping the same feeling of the title song as well in this album. When we talked with our CEO and our agency, we agreed that we would keep our CNBLUE style till this album without much change. Instead of acting for drama, for the first time I will take a rest for 2 to 3 months and will focus on producing music. During these 2-3 months I will work on the music which will be included in the next album.

2:20 JYH: We are all blood A except Jonghyun. When I let members listen to songs I composed. I could know what they thought about my song just by seeing their eyes. If it was really good, they said “it’s awesome. It’s the best”. But if they were not satisfied, they said “it’s good”. I tried to rearrange it.

2:50~ LJS: I don’t expect much achievement for this album, instead we will enjoy with people and fans who have been waiting for us.

3:00 JYH: You might laugh at it (my dream). My dream is to top in Billboard chart with my own music. We had good timing so we have been achieving this dream little by little. I’m happy about it and I learn a lot every day. We had tour abroad including USA. We’ve done well thanks to good timing, but from now on, I want to climb higher with our music

3:40 JYH: Many bands whom I like will compete in ‘Top Band’ (name of audition variety show in Korea). I want to compete with them. It’s not because of competition but because it will be meaningful to have relation with many bands and to perform together with them.

4:20 JYH: Many people are expecting my hand gesture for title song. I have restriction in live stage because I have to play guitar. All the gesture I’m thinking is what I’ve already done. I can’t think of anything new, so I’m worried every night. I asked my dongsaeng for new and fresh idea for new gestures. You will find out it at our first music show.
LJH: Not long ago, I saw him studying gesture wearing a sleeveless shirt. I feel hurtful for it because I can’t be much help of him.
JYH: When we did I’m a loner, I did a daring gesture without any practice and without fear. But it was a beginning. I feel burdened more and more. This is the most stressful time to prepare gestures. I even practiced in front of mirror. I will study hard, and will show you a nice gesture at our first TV show.
Thank you.

[News] CNBLUE: Back to the basics with “EAR FUN”

Announcing their comeback in over a year with their third mini-album “EAR FUN” at the press conference on Monday, the members of CNBLUE explained that the group wanted to go back to the basics and purely enjoy themselves on stage.
It feels great to stand here on stage for our showcase today. (If you have any stereotype of CNBLUE as idols) We hope you enjoyed watching us just like watching a rock band,” leader Jung Yong-hwa said after the group presented their first song “I Still Love You” and continued with their performances of “In My Head” and title track “Hey You.”
The songs that are listed in the new release are light and cheerful and just like the name of our album ‘EAR FUN’ it features music that will enlighten your ears with some fun,” CNBLUE’s bassistLee Jung-shin said.
Even though we felt all this immense amount of pressure to outdo our past records, we decided to go back to the basics and re-embrace the mindset we had when we first started out with our debut song ‘Alone.’ We just want to focus on our music and present it to the audience with no fear,” Jung Yong-hwa said.
CNBLUE’s guitarist and vocalist Lee Jong-hyun added that the members would have to have fun on stage first in order for the audience to enjoy the group’s performance.
As the four members performed each song it seemed as they became more confident and comfortable being on stage.
The boys moved around the stage like rockstars, playing their instruments and singing the lyrics without any mistakes.
Interestingly, the lyrics were focused on expressing people’s dreams, hopes and passion, whereas their previous hits sang about love and heartache.
Below are the excerpts of CNBLUE’s interview, describing each track in the album that was released today.

“Hey You”

Kang Min-hyuk: This is one of my favorite songs and just by hearing the first part of it, I’m sure the listener will instantly know that this is sang by CNBLUE. I even thought to myself that this track strongly holds our color. Overall, it’s just a great song with lively melody and simple lyrics.

“I Still Love You”

Jung Yong-hwa: I composed this song and I feel that the chorus part and the over melody are quite powerful. Also, I feel that the song is addictive and it will probably get stuck in your head (laugh).

“Dream Boy”

Min-hyuk: I feel that lyrics to ‘Dream Boy’ expresses who we are as a band. It is a cheer-up song that touches on our dreams and hopes. It starts off with a calm and soft melody and all of a sudden it has a turning point where it suddenly speeds up the beat.
Yong-hwa: It draws the picture of our dreams as kids, like a fairytale.

“Rock n’Roll”

Lee Jung-shin: This vocals and the rap show the true colors of CNBLUE that makes you burst in excitement. I feel that our fans will enjoy this song when we perform it at our concerts.
Yong-hwa: Even though we can’t dance, we are planning to do a dance move called ‘Happy Dance’ and hope to perform it to the fans at our concerts. (laugh)
Min-hyuk: I know for sure that Yong-hwa will automatically dance to it at concerts.

“Run”

Lee Jong-hyun: The song ‘Run’ goes well with the spring season and it’s easy to listen to for everybody.
Min-hyuk: It’s a good song for someone who’s going for a walk. I’m sure that the song will make the listeners want to run. (laugh)

“In My Head”

Yong-hwa: I composed this track myself and it is a song that I treasure the most. We first released this song as our major Japanese debut single. I asked our agency’s CEO if we could include the Korean version of it because I really wanted our fans in Korea to enjoy it as well. I hope I can get a chance to perform it in live.
Min-hyuk: It is a great song and Jung did a great job in writing the lyrics to it.
